Well then check this out:
I got mine from the Ganganagar (Bangalore) Customer care office. No waiting at the enquiry or checking up boards. Bang directly into the sub-engineers's office. She's alarmed, but once I say I'm here to register for the EVDO connection, she readily gets me the form and explains to me the way to fill up etc. Since its a saturday, she prefers me to come on monday, but I still make it back to the office in 1 hour, with everything ready. Gets me the device, configures it, and explains to me the actual problems (less exchange coverage, ppl returning instrument, no roaming etc.) nd advises me to wait if I can. She gives me her number (rather than customer care nums..lol) especially since the bill could not be printed. Assures me that it will be ready on Monday, and so will be the activation. On monday, I get a call from the office, asking me to collect it.

Fast forward to May 27:
I'm completely pissed off by the fact that I have not received EVDO signals inspite of assurances from the lady, that it will be available in two weeks - by April 15th. Im all set to tear the office apart, only to see that she was actually browsing with the device, on EVDO signal. She remembers me [was glad] and checks up my stuff. Now the best part:

She seems to be another promotee who's not aware of technical stuff. But I was impressed, 'coz she had actually written down all procedures (reconfiguration, writing data etc) personally in a diary, with bookmarks so that she doesnt have to fumble around!! Now thats a really good approach, kudos to her. She calls up her senior from her phone and confirms the error, re-writes it and proudly announces that its functional in most parts. She talks about how coverage is better in TN and Kerala etc. Was glad at her initiative man.. when no-one in the office knew what EVDO was ..

wow thats great, very few people ve experienced such nice behaviour frm them. my friends are getting calls from BSNL persons to get the evdo connection at homes. definately they are now promoting the services but not seriously.
THEY SHOULD KNOW, COUSTOMERS ARE BEST PROMOTERS!!

I got my EV-DO connection from the Malleswaram exchange in Bangalore and I must say that they were very nice and I got the connection activated the same day. The only problem was they goofed up the configuration on the device.

I agree that they are really bad at picking up the phone, but once you get through they do try their best to help you out. At least that was my experience.

To get my device reconfigured I had been to Whitefield which is where the support engineers sit. They were all very nice and I had my device reconfigured within 20mins. So although it was frustrating that they didn't configure right the first time, I got it up and running pretty quickly after that.

Hmm. I had two opposite experiences yesterday at Chinchwad, Pune BSNL Office yesterday.(Not exactly about EVDO) The middle aged lady who was sitting at the counter was not able to understand what I was asking for. My question was: If I take a BSNL Sulabh plan connection, what will be the initial charges? Her answer : " You dont have to pay anything now. Everything will come in the bill". Not convinced. I reframed my question : " I understand that I need not pay anything now. But how much will be the bill amount? " . She got irritated. She stopped talking to me. I was with my friend, who asked several question to her to get the answer. But he could not. It was so funny to watch the lady getting irritated. Then there was one more officer called Kamthe, who answered our queries regarding Broadband.

but its employes spoils image....

When i went to buy the EVDO to the local exchange the man there was not knowing any thing regarding it and he told me that i will need to buy WLL phone for EVDO to work i shocked from the unawareness. I asked everyone in office none of them was aware more than just knowing name. One kind man callled to the other exchange man for more info but during that another man came and cut the phone and told that caller officer that dont call from my table Guests cannot see images in the messages. But i had strong wheel so i went directly to manager office and told him abt his officers. He was a young man and personaly handled my case and registered and helped me i was first customer of my city and that manager was second after me.

Well this here is my story...

I went to this exchange in Pune(Karve Road) along with my bro on one fine Saturday and enquired about the EVDO connection. The lady sitting at the counter pointed towards the door talking in Marathi with her head pointing the exact opposite direction as if I was junk!. I asked her if she would re-explain whatever crap she said and she went like "Read the information from there... Do not enquire over here for anything". I said fine. I already knew a big deal about this connection so I just wanted to go in for one. So she pointed me to the other direction of the rectangular room and said "Take the form from there and submit it here". We again gave a shot to whatever she said, and went to that corner only to be re-directed to the other side of the room which was like totally disconected. Anyway, so I filled up the form and attached my passport copy as proof of identification and went to her. But this lady said "Did I not tell you to come on Monday?... "said" probably is too mild... she actually "yelled" at us. I said if I have come today and that to am still fitting in the time frame where the official timings are still ticking, why not accept this single application and save my efforts of coming down again on Monday?
But she was rude enough to leave the counter when I was standing right under her nose. So, I went to the divisional manager over there and asked him to accept my form. That guy tried to convince the Counter 4 lady with some confedential Hush-Fushhhs! but all his efforts seemed to be in vein. "No problem" he said, "I can accept your docs. Show me.". So I passed over the docs to him. He said, "Where are rest of the docs?". I was like, "What rest of the docs?". Then I came to know about a lame excuese that ... "Passport if submitted as an Address Proof, cannot be used as Identitity proof." and vice-versa. I said, I too have grey hair, so I do know what S*it they are throwin. Anyways I wanted to cut the discussion short so my bro just got me the Xerox of my license.
Then this guy called up Counter 4 lady and asked her to do him a favour by accepting my form. But not the Counter 4 lady had a convinent break down of her Network Services which was not convinencing as her colegues were still beating keyboards at their counters.
Anyway, she was asked to take down everything and hand me the connection. I got my modem and she was taking down my details. Then I enquired "It works in Kothrud right"... and there was no answer. "I asked again... "I hope it works in Kothrud".... still no answer... Finally I asked in a harsh voice. "I HOPE..... IT WORKS IN KOTHRUD"... and she yelled. "NO ENQUIRES PLEASE"... (Irony of this situation was that I was in the Customer Care of BSNL.... I pity Govenment organizations for hiring crap) I just ignored her and went back to the manager and got my answers. I did not get anything written from her as her "node was down" and I still have not recieved a call from them ever since. Also I have nothing in Black and White from the BSNL other than the ZTE box that specifies that I have a EVDO connection. I just hope that does not put me in a FIX!.

Its because of these ROTTON APPLES that a good organiation like BSNL has to suffer humiliation and downsizing from the compitition and the "Aamm Janta"... BSNL should be privatized. (I'll swear I'll buy it and sack that lady... GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!)

Guys, I took my connection from Bangalore, BTM CSC. Tell you what, I was totally happy the way in which officials were behaving. Its true that sometimes we need to repeat what we say more than once to get their attention, but, once they started listening to me, everything went smooth.

Moreover, like said, its sometimes very difficult to get hold of someone if you call them by phone. But, then again, once they are available, they were doing their best to help me out. What I understand is that the engineers are the best in the business. They knew exactly what they do!!

Now, if you feel that these people are unaware of the plans or details, I will not blame them! That should be something to do with how they do internal communication. I even felt that its the same even with some of the private players!!!

I had a poor experience in Ganganagar, Bangalore. The lady was far from helpful. They were busy discussing personal matters with each other while customers were waiting to be attended. I saw one customer being driven back and forth from enquiry to the purchase section. Evidently, they don't get along well with each other. They talked like they knew everything there was to know about BSNL. I had enquired with the lady about EVDO service. I had just called the Jayanagar office (who are far better) and they informed me that there were no devices available and I may have to wait a couple of months. They said BSNL would advertise in newspapers about the service by then. Anyway, the lady in Ganganagar said BSNL has stopped giving out new connections...... and when asked when they would resume .... she replied with a 'NEVER"!! Happless, I decided to go for the the NIC card.
Later on in the day, on impulse, I started to call other customer care centers in Bangalore, and I got different responses from each of them. Evidently, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Now I am stuck with a NIC card for 3 months! Some customer care centers have the device available. People who are not satisfied with the service have returned the device and that explains the availability.
