Voice calls in EVDO

Hey Guys ,
I am using EVDO with the new firmware which has the feature to support voice calls/messaging/evdo/1X/hybrid.(purchased it around august 2009). I tried to call a bsnl customer care no 1502 using evdo modem. I just connected the modem. then ran the ZTE app then went to the voice call option.there I dialled the no and called and it worked.I could hear the offers she announced(Computer voice). then selected some options for language/(prepaid-postpaid)..But when I dialed my virgin mob and a local landling no it said this feature is not present at now.

This thing was already reported in the forum, and i am just trying to share my experience.

I had tried this voicecall before but it had not worked before(around november)..

but Anush how to upgrade firmware for AC8700 modem to avail these facilities because BSNL staff don't know what is firmware?

I don't know how to change the firmware for this modem, It is just like updating your motherboards bios. but any wrong step might spoil/corrupt ur modem. resulting in a completely dead modem. Anyways whats the need, as there is no change in speeds and facility such as voice call(Even if u get voice call option it is not supported by bsnl local towers).

First we had telephones
-> It was designed for voice calls
-> and we tried to send data over it using dial up

Then we had connections dedicated for Data
-> Like our EVolution Data Only
-> Now we want to make voice calls from it

Trying to push things where ever possible (Pardon the pun )

That being said, I'm also looking forward to get voice calls on my EV-DO
Its more convenient sometime to make calls and SMS from our PC itself
