Hello Dear Mr Administrator...
Hope u r having a good time...

I am presently residing in Patna but wil be leaving to Bangalore on
Feb 2009.
My query is that if I take an EVDO connection on rental basis then
can I terminate my connection after Feb with all security refunds
from BSNL as this device would not work when I shift to Bangalore
(as roaming facility is not available there).

Or is it possible that I terminate my connection here in Feb and take
a new connection in Bangalore on the same device(which I took from Patna) from local BSNL exchange at Bangalore

Thanks for co-operation

Hi,

I am from Surat, Gujarat and EVDO tower is next to my society. I am getting 3-4 tower band in my connector UI.

Download works gr8 (almost 75 to 150 kpbs download speed) when i m able to open link. But while I try to surf some websites it says timeout. The observation says that if on connector Download rate shows in bps then its not allow to surf. If download rate goes in to KBPS then only surfing is possible.

Most of the time if happens that download rate remains 0 bps and upload rate too.

Why such thing is happening? Do you think I visit exchange ppl and ask for some fix?

Let me know your input.

Hello folks,

Hope i'll find a solution to my problem from this thread.

I have a DELL Inspiron 1520 and recently subscribed to BSNL's EVDO service to allow me to connect to the internet on the move.
The ZTE usb module faithfully hooks up to net but i get very inconsistent speeds even though the signal level is fairly good.

I have downloaded the Windows VISTA patch KB940646, which supposedly stabilizes the data bursts and improves the performance by negotiating the TCP connection on 3G networks better.
Now, when I attempted to install it, I got "The update does not apply to your system" message and the installation aborted.

This is very silly because my machine runs on VISTA Home Premium, powered by a 32 bit processor and I am pretty sure that I downloaded the correct patch.

Has anyone in the past faced a similar problem on their VISTA machine?

I have even tried running windows update and managed to download updates for the ZTE client. No luck still!

Please share your thoughts on what could be wrong? Have I missed any obvious thing?

Cheers!

( I know it's not a good thread to bee in tutorial section, but i saw a lot of users who have the confusion about the connections user name and password, and even if it seems a very small thing to us, many find it a difficult part to find out their user name and password..)

Hi all. Below i will provide instructions about how to find the correct user name and password for the evdo device's connection.

First of all , please know that their are two type of connections.
1) CDMA 1X (up to 144 kilo bit per second limit) which is primitive and slower connection

2) EVDO REV 0 (2.4 Mbps theoretical Down link, 150 kbps Up link). which is the faster connection.

*Now user name and password for the CDMA 1x users:-
The cdma 1x connection has default username: bsnl
passowrd: bsnl

*For EVDO Connection
User name and password is the phone no (min no) of ur device's connection.

Now the question is how to find that phone no.
One easiest way is to look at ur BSNL EVDO service bill.
Their u will see the phone no in LEFT TOP CORNER of the bill.
this phone number will start from 2 and will be a 7 digit no.
this no will be ur username as well as password..

Well every body is waiting of EVDO Roaming facility to begin. One of my friend who is Working as junior telecom officers at BSNL told me BSNL is undergoing some meetings for cdma and evdo , which is finally going to result in nation wide roaming.
Further he explained that currently the Tarang network is of limited mobility type, that is mobility for more than 20 km from the point of installation is not allowed( theoretical). Hence all tarang cells and even data cards (nic and evdo both) have the phone number series of 7 nos starting from 2. eg 2001296.

Now what bsnl is planning is the conversion of this limited mobility survice to a full fledged mobile network such as tataindicom cdma or reliance cdma.
Then our numbers will change from 2seriers to 9** series with a 10 digit no.
The same thing happned about 3-4 years back with tataindicom coustomers and about 5 -6 years back with reliance coustomers. All of them previously started their services with limited mobility and then gave the full mobility after permission from tri.(reliance used to provide roaming even in the limited mobility period, and for that if u remembered tri imposed fine on it too!)

Warning:
TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. If something goes wrong we (forum/site/members) are not responsible for the damage caused.
Do remember to Backup ur settings.

We are now going to learn how to reprogram ur ev-do device if u haven't done so already, without going to the exchange. [size=large](But i would urge u, if possible get it done by exchange people only.) It is only for those people, for whom it is hard to go to the exchange.

Well this was most intresting topic to write, but i was waiting for my city to become evdo enabled, such that i could try the reprogramming myself before posting a tutorial. i will try to keep things simple and will not go into any of the technical details of the setting.

[size=large]Request for the members who are using the evdo service:-
This tutorial cannot be complete without ur help guys, so please come forward and help in providing the setting of ur city in reply. Please do not quote. It makes the thread unreadable, and others find it hard to absorb.

So i divide the turorial into two parts.
1) For members who HAVE ALREADY RECONFIGURED AND SUCCESSFULLY USING EVDO CARD WITH EVDO SIGNAL.
AND
2)For members who ARE AT EVDO ENABLED LOCATION BUT HAVE NOT RECONFIGURED THE CARD.

First one Belongs for the Users who got their card's reconfiguration succesfully done and running evdo.

I would now describe the procedure of getting ur evdo settings, uploading in to some FREE file hosting server.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
step 1.
Go to device manager (rt click my computer on desktop, go to properties->hardware->device Manager.)
in device Manager,
locate PORTS.
expand ports so that u can see ZTE Diagnostic Interface (com **)
now observe the comport no in this ZTE DIAG INTERFACE. either write it down or remember it, coz we will need the com port no later.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2.
Saving up the settings, For uploading.

download the PST software form the link

Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.
open the RAR archive, extract all files and folders.

follow path extraction path\ EVDO\EVDO\ZTEIT\PST

u will find a pst.exe file in that folder.
open that file, and in the Select Port column, select the port u saw in the ZTE diag interface port previously. Click Scan Button.

Then when the system finds ur Card, Click Enter Button on the application UI.

then click Read From The Phone button.
wait while all settings are displayed and the software becomes idle.
now Click the Save Button, and save the your_City_Name.ini file wherever u want. Where your_city_name corresponds to the name of ur city.

Now Close the Pst and come back to the older window. Here again u will see the options, slick on RL Editor button on the form.
A new window of RL EDITOR would be opened now. Please locate the COM Port option in the right top of the window. Set the port u saw in the zte diagnostic interface.

Then click on the UPLOAD button, and wait till upload is done..
Click om file->Save as. Save it at the folder u saved the ini file, name this file ur_city_name.prl, Where ur_city_name corresponds to city u live in.

compress both files to one zip archive and name it ur_city_settings.zip, where urcity name is the city u use the evdo card.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3.

Please upload the said zip file to Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.
Provide the link with the details of the city and the state in this thread.
Your task stands finished ..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second: Procedur for the Reprogramming.
The second procedure belongs o the users who stay in ev-do enabled area, but have not reconfigured the EV-DO card..

I will update te procedure as soon as some users share their settings and provide the links of their upload.
