Smile CD Slide-in trick to increase the speed of BSNL EVDO.
Right from the beginning, while I wrote the review in my old blog, I made a comment that sliding-in a old CD into the antenna of the EVDO device will make the device to grasp the signal much better resulting in much better speeds. This is one of the tricks to increase the speed. Do remember that it will never boost the signal; instead it will make the device to receive the signal better.

Few people might have wondered how to slide in a CD into the antenna of the device. So after a guy in the forum asked to post some picture, I decided to write a tutorial with pictures.

I’ll split up this tutorial in two parts. One is by just sliding in a CD in to the antenna and another is extending the cable by using a USB extension cable or the USB hub with the CD inserted in to the antenna.

First, let me start with the CD slide-in trick:

1. Take an old CD or DVD.

2. Connect the device:

3. Swivel-Open the antenna of the device to about 90 degree:

4. Slide-In an Old CD or a DVD into the antenna, such that the CD’s hole will enter into the antenna.

This completes the first method. And this will be useful to get much better signal reception for people who use a laptop and also for people who keeps the device static on their desktop.

Now the second method requires a USB extension cable or a USB HUB. Here you go:

1. Take an old CD or DVD and a USB extension cable/hub and slide-in the CD/DVD as I mentioned in the first method.

2. Connect one end of the extension cable or the HUB to the EVDO data cable….

3. ….and plug-in the device to the other end or to one of the hub’s port.

This completes the second method and this is really useful to people who are using desktop. By doing this, one can place the device far from their desktop and can place it where they feel that the device is getting much better signal reception.

I tested by placing the device beside my room’s window, but I didn’t get good speeds, So instead, I’ve placed it on CRT monitor and it works absolutely good.

Here ends the tutorial..

Note: This method will NOT work in everyone's case. But yes it has worked for many.. If it woks for u please let us know Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see images.

RE: CD Slide-in trick to increase the speed of BSNL EVDO.
I get 3 bars most of the time.. Sometimes 4 bars.
I stay some 700 meters for the tower.
Still I get pathetic speeds. I have almost stopped browsing these days.

RE: CD Slide-in trick to increase the speed of BSNL EVDO.
^ man u must be lucky, but am sad about ur speed. I stay 7 KM from the tower and I get 2 bars and sometimes 3 bars. I believe its because there are no tall buildings and thickly populated areas around the tower Guests cannot see images in the messages. even my speeds are bad from past three days, they might be doing some upgrade work to bring EVDO network. Anyway did u made a query regarding this prob in the exchange ?

Yes, I had asked.. She said they are having trouble upgrading the tower.. She asked me to meet the SDE, but that SDE is never ever available in the exchange.

RE: CD Slide-in trick to increase the speed of BSNL EVDO.
I tested it three times with and without the CD. I got speed improvements of 62%, 61% and 72%. So the CD seems to help.
