Hi Veagles,

i tried loading it again ....
this time ZTE CDMA TECH showed in the system profiler .
But it didnt show in the Network Port configurations or anywhere else in the Network settings panel.
when i expanded the USB icon in the system profiler it showed me the following data :

"////////////////////////////////////////

ZTE CDMA Tech:

Version: 0.00
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: ZTE, Incorporated
Product ID: 0x3197
Vendor ID: 0x05c6

//////////////////////////////////////////"

just wanted to check from you , whether the shell script you gave will work for this product and vendor ID?
Thanks, Veagles!! It worked for me too. I had to edit the script to my hardware ID. I've done the test with Vista as well, and download and upload speeds are roughly the same. This is running Vista on my MacBook via Bootcamp.
@mahesh m,
Change 24576 in the script to 12695. Download the file again. Restore it first and start over.
I Repeat, first restore or else it wont work.

Hi Veagles,

just now tried the following steps ::::

step one -- used 'remove.sh' from terminal window to remove the already loaded 'install.sh'
step two -- downloaded a new install.zip file and opened the install.sh file and changed the no from 24576 to 12695 ( like you had adviced...)
step three -- ran the install.sh from terminal ( it gave the message device added successfully !)
step four -- restarted the machine; my EVDO device is connected in the USB port ( only Yellow light nw)
step five -- now i went into System preferences/ Network window and tried to look for the ZTE modem in the list from the long list ( close to 40, 50 different modems are listed there );

I couldnt find the ZTE modem name there.
Is something wrong with the steps i have followed or anyother no also needs to be changed ?( my product id and vendor id i gave in the previous post ).

i have uploaded the screen shots of my
1.network preference window
2.internet connect window and
3. modem list window......

Hope you will be able to guide me through how to actually proceed now...!
The list which you have shown is a list of modem scripts that are present in your mac. A modem script is used to dial a modem. It is NOT a list of installed modem drivers. You are not supposed to look here.
ZTE CDMA Tech must appear in Internet connect in the top bar where you have bluetooth, 802.11 etc.
This is what i could get from novatel suppport. Hope it helps..

Go to Network.

HI Veagles,

i just noticed that in Install.sh there was one more 24576 which was not changed to 12695 ( it occurs twice in the script. i have changed only one). So i changed the other one also. then used remove.sh and then again Install.sh.

i got the following response ::::::::::::::::::::::

"121:/Install root# sh Remove.sh
mv: rename /Install/kext/AppleWWANSupport.kext to /System/Library/Extensions/IOSerialFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleWWANSupport.kext: No such file or directory

i suppose some files are missing or in some other directory; can you suggest how to proceed now...?

thanks a lot ....
You are not following the instructions properly.

Let me explain in simple words what is happening.

Apple ships evdo drivers with 10.4.9 and later. I noticed that the evdo drivers supported several devices from novatel and verizon. So I tried to patch the driver to support this particular modem and it worked!

Install.sh is a script that will patch your drivers to detect the zte modem. Every piece of hardware has device id and vendor id that helps the os to identify it uniquely. The script adds the device ids of zte modem to the apple driver.

The kext folder contains original unmodified drivers, to restore back, if the script didnt work.

Remove.sh will delete the modified drivers and move the original drivers to your system.

Now, this is what you have done.
You run remove.sh, it restores from kext folder, fine.
You run it again, the kext folder is empty, and the script cannot find anything to restore after deleting the drivers. You see an error.
You run Install.sh, the drivers have been deleted, there is nothing to patch. Error!

Please read through once again and follow the steps in order. It a very very simple procedure compared to my previous method..
