1. I've seen you suggest that the cdma/novatel script is faster than the prolific method, but I was just wondering if this was absolutely confirmeed or perhaps different in different areas.

2. In your network preferences pane, are you automatically supplied with a WINS name and server.

3. Do you use vpn on top of it? Or maybe the 802.11 authentication?.

4. Is there any way on hte mac itself to identify how many bars there are similar to as you can do in windows, and more importantly whether you are on evdo or you are on 1x?

Thanks for your time and I appreciate al the help you've done .

Yes, the second method will always give faster speeds. I havent yet tried using vpn. I dont think there is any easy way to get the signal strength or the evdo mode. We will have to wait for the official drivers.

Also, to those of you have had the chance both Prolific driver and Veagle's Script, which is better?

I realize this thread seems pretty dead, but its really the only one on the net with anything even remotely informative to say about the zte mac evdo issue.

Well, let me know.
I have been busy these days. I will try to keep it alive..

I'm using Mac OSX 10.5.4 and the System Profiler shows following for my EVDO device:

Version: 0.00
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: ZTE, Incorporated
Product ID: 0x3197
Vendor ID: 0x05c6

So I've changed the value 24576 in the script to 12695, ran install.sh - no errors so far. Then some moments later I got a message from Mac OSX that some kernel extensions are missing (about 6-7 kexts where missing). See here: Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.

After restarting my Mac it didn't boot anymore - was hanging at the gray loading screen. Gladly I've made a Time Machine backup before...

Do you have any idea what I made wrong or what's wrong on my system? Afraid to do it again as the restore process takes some hours.

That's weird.. The script itself is harmless.

Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.Good news: I dared to try it again and finally it worked out fine! Card detected and Inet works! Except the speeds are incredibly slow - at the first attempt I had to wait minutes for G**gle startpage, no it's a bit better.

Area: Auroville, Puducherry
Speedtest.net reports: 270 down, 37 up

But I've the feeling that it's much slower (the fetching of several files takes soo long).

If its really slow use the modem on a windows computer and compare the speeds. I think its because of weak signal or 1x network.

It seems to be a permission issue. Would you please help me to resolve?

You forgot the first step. Do sudo -s before running the script.

I havent used tiger in a long time. There may be minor differences in the layout of the preferences. Just explore and figure it out.

I wonder how this thread gets so may hits. Mac's are not that popular in India.

In fact, I wasnt expecting any replies when i wrote this tutorial.

I have recently installed BSNL EVDO AC8700 on my Mac OS X 10.3.9. I was searching frantically for drivers on the net initially following the leads in this forum using PL2303 drivers. Mac OS X 10.3.9 already has drivers in the form of Apple Verizon drivers for PC 5220. One has to manually add the product and vendor id in /System/Library/Extensions/IOSerialFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleVerizonSupport.kext/Contents/Info.plist
I suppose this is the same in 10.5. But dont have a machine to check. I get good speeds with the Verizon Driver.

Hey Veagles, I forgot to mention one of thi biggest issues I am having with your script in leopard. After running your script, The device is detected, but there is no inherent option to enter a dial out number.

Therefore, one is left only with a few choices for a modem. i.e. the sierra or novatel CDMA set. The generic modem doesn't work.

As a work around, I reinstalled "Internet Connect.app" from my old install disc, and was then able to use a variety of different drivers.

Is there something I am missing here? What do other leopard users do?
i have tried copying that file, the thing is i am not able to save the file, please tell me how to save the file through commands.

Asif
I totally messed up and ended up deleting a portion of the file. Nothing's working now. What should I do?
@Veagles: Many thanks for your tutorial and script :-) I was able to get up and running relatively easily.
