in my opinin they are all gud ,i used both of 'em , but the one with the wwan driver (new approach) is the better , the only defect or misbehave thing (unseen) that the rectanglor icon on the system tray or menu bar that not working ,in my opinion its a big and good shot from mr.Veagle to use that device in Mac. anyways THANXXXX alot Veagle ...
* EVERYONE PLZ USE THE SECOND APPROACH (NOT PROLIFIC DRIVER) I ADVICE U,ITS GUD ENOUGH BUT MAKE TO REMOVE THE THE OLD 1(PROLIFIC DRIVER,1ST APPROACH) .....

Thanks WEAGLES
Dear Veagles, thank you so much for your afford to code this Install script. Unfortunatley it did not work completely for me.

I'm using Mac OSX 10.5.4 and the System Profiler shows following for my EVDO device:

Version: 0.00
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: ZTE, Incorporated
Product ID: 0x3197
Vendor ID: 0x05c6

So I've changed the value 24576 in the script to 12695, ran install.sh - no errors so far. Then some moments later I got a message from Mac OSX that some kernel extensions are missing (about 6-7 kexts where missing). See here: Guests cannot see links in the messages. After restarting my Mac it didn't boot anymore - was hanging at the gray loading screen. Gladly I've made a Time Machine backup before...

Do you have any idea what I made wrong or what's wrong on my system? Afraid to do it again as the restore process takes some hours.
Good news: I dared to try it again and finally it worked out fine! Card detected and Inet works! Except the speeds are incredibly slow - at the first attempt I had to wait minutes for G**gle startpage, no it's a bit better.

Area: Auroville, Puducherry
Speedtest.net reports: 270 down, 37 up

But I've the feeling that it's much slower (the fetching of several files takes soo long).

This method is dead easy compared to the previous one. All you need to do is run a shell script. If you have installed the pl2303 drivers, then remove them before you proceed.
Code:
~<Username>$ sudo -s
bash-3.2# kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/osx-pl2303.kext/
bash-3.2# rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/osx-pl2303.kext/
bash-3.2# rm -r /Library/Receipts/osx-pl2303.pkg/

Reboot

1. Download this file from mediafire.

2. Extract to your root partition, which is usually Mac HD. Execute these command in the terminal.
Code:
~<Username>$ sudo -s
bash-3.2# cd /
bash-3.2# ls
You should see the Install folder here.
Code:
bash-3.2# cd Install
bash-3.2# sh Install.sh

Reboot

Open Network preferences, you should be able to see ZTE CDMA Tech as one the connections. Enter your bsnl number and select Vendor as Novatel and Model as cdma from advanced tab.

The script is for ZTE AC8700 modems with hardware id 0c56:6000. The numbers 24576 and 1478 in the script correspond to the above id. You would have to change it if you have a different hardware id.

ordimmsniff:install meziane$

It seems to be a permission issue. Would you please help me to resolve?
Sorry, probably very stupid question: but how do you find the hardware id of the device?

Also, what username password are you using? I've tried both cdma/cdma and the phone number as username/password, and both work on my Windows laptop. Is one or the other recommended in Mac?

I am using Mac OS X G4 Note Book (Tiger) and having an EVDO ZTE AC8700. I am trying to configure my laptop with this EVDO through the tutorials of Veagles. I have stuck at Point No. 11. I could not find any 'advanced' tab in System Preferences->Network. Please guide me.
