RE: 4 bars but no speed!
Anyone seeing this problem again of having full network but slow speeds? I've begun to face this again. I'm in Bangalore and just wondering if the upradation they were doing some time ago has anything to do with it... Any ideas on how to improve the speed though?

RE: 4 bars but no speed!
Hey dears I too get three to four towers but the speed/bandwidth is like hell, tried all the tricks like CD/USB Cable & also I'm staying well within 2 km range of tower nothing just nothing I'm getting. And during evening hours I'm getting 0-20 kbps...

Do any one have some other fix available with them, please help me out...

RE: 4 bars but no speed!
Ok, here's something strange that I noticed. My speed was crawling again as usual and I was barely getting 2KB/s on my torrents and the ZTE was showing my average speed to be around 80Kbps.
I then shutdown my torrent client. Suddenly I noticed that my speed on the ZTE client started showing an average of around 500Kbps. Which is still slower than what I've experienced in the past but makes me believe that for some reason the torrent client was limiting the speed of the connection. Although I don't know enough to say why that should technically be correct. Anyone got any ideas??? Guests cannot see images in the messages. RE: 4 bars but no speed!
Even I face the same issue, when I start the torrent and try to browse any website, it doesn't open at all.
But when I stop the torrent, the speed is ok. Sites open as usual.

RE: 4 bars but no speed!
I believe all of your who get 4 bars are lucky.
In Pune i have never gotten past a single bar, and i live may be a km from the BSNL tower. It is direct line of sight, so i dont think there would be an issue of disturbance.
The maximum speed that i have seen (even with a single bar) is about 880kbps. However that is never a sustained speed, and i got it when the connection was new, during first week or so, and that too only sometimes.
So, there might be a relation between the number of bars and speed, but there is no 'cause-and-effect' relationship there.

RE: 4 bars but no speed!
The bars definitely have an effect on the speed because with 4 bars I can go upto 2000Kbps at bursts. But the torrent effect is also definitely there. Like, I've never seen my speed go above 500Kbps when I have a torrent client running but the minute I switch it off it zooms up to above 1000Kbps on a burst.
Do you think its possible that BSNL automatically limits bandwidth to your PC if it detects a torrent running? Not too sure how they'd find that out though...

Detectiing torrent downloads is quite trivial for the big ISPs. And yes even i have seen the torrent effect.
Then again, i mostly use linux, where the 'bars' are not visible at all, and all i can say is usually the speeds are reasonable, but off late there are at least 3 days every two weeks where the EVDO modem just wont connect!!!
It just doesnt get the signal. I dont know if there is a way around this though.
