BSNL EVDO To Be Available in Chennai only in Outer Peripheral Areas

BSNL Chennai’s website may claim that EVDO connections are available, but the reality is that they’re offering connections only in outer peripheral areas. Sad as it may be but the news is true. I’d paid a visit to the Greames Road exchange in Chennai to apply for a EVDO connection. Initially I was thrilled to see the EVDO device infront of me, all my excitement died when I was informed that there’s no CDMA tower in Triplicane, nor there is one in city. I was told that at the moment, BSNL is focussing on EVDO connections(in Chennai, atleast) only in areas where standard wired connectivity is not possible - areas like Perungudy, OMR, Velachery etc. On asking whether any CDMA towers will be setup anytime soon, I was met with blank faces. Have to say, this isn’t the best of moves BSNL is making. There is immense response and demand to BSNL’s EVDO service and BSNL isn’t doing justice to their Chennai customers. As usual, We at BSNL EVDO Club will keep you guys updated with the latest information as and when it happens.

I wish to share that the BSNL Chennai authorities are themselves not sure about the likely time within the suburb limits. In fact they even do not encourage buying of this card at customers risk and hence do not accept applications. Hopefully they will announce the CHENNAI CITY/SUBURBAN Launch shortly as there is immense demand.

The problems in chennai is not merely a technical as one believed.. EVDO needs CDMA towers.. in chennai nothing like that.. once the plans of 50 CDMA was projected two years ago.. if it materialised by that time, chennai will be fully covered with EVDO’s glory ..
another problem is intra departmental fight with in the powers take heavy toll on Chennai BSNL developement..only officer who honestly take the BB revolution in chennai MR. Selvam G.M (BB) already retired..If customers can wrote to CGM, chennai BSNL about EVDO requirements then some thing can be done..

I went to BSNL office, Guindy in Chennai and met one person who is incharge of EVDO Broadband. This lady who is a JTO said that the maximum speed that can be obtained is only 100 kbps.

Can any EVDO users in Chennai confirm the speed they are getting on their connections ?

I went customer care office, guindy n met ome office, his response was very positive, but he is not sure about the available location of ev-do. I informed him that I am staying in Medavakkam and wht abt the availability there? he answered me like he will enquire abt the availability n asked me to come there again on next week.

Is anybody have idea about the evdo availability at Medavakkam???

I think you guys should better register in our forum for free and ask all your questions there for quick response. :)

hi

I recently inquired about an EVDO connection from the BSNL Kodambakkam office(in chennai). here is the conversation i had with the BSNL officer. This is a long one..i am sorry.

Me : I asked if there is a technical feasibility for EVDO( not data card) in koyambedu(my residence).
Officer : yes.
Me : I told him i already have a 256Kbps unlimited connection from BSNL. Will this EVDO be even a BIT!!! faster than that?
Officer : yes.
I felt Greeeeaaaattttt.
Me : I then asked if there is a CDMA Tower of BSNL in my place.
Officer : face became blank?*#$@%^@#
after a while………..
Officer : why dont u call 1500 (toll free call center for BSNL)

I called 1500……

Me : I would like to know if there is a BSNL CDMA tower in Koyambedu.

Tech support agent(gnanesh) : let me place u on hold for a minute.

Hold music: ding dong ding dong hold music..&^%w ^^@#*
for 10 minutes….

TSA : Sir, we do not have this information as this is a VERY VERY NEW TECHNOLOGY( i didnt know it was new technology, but i knew BSNL provides one…but unfortunately the provider of this service says they do not know this…)

TSA : please call this phone number (specific for koymabedu.. he said) : Ph1(number not given for privacy reasons)

Me : i called PH1.

PH1 : call PH2.

PH2 : call 197.

197 : call PH3.

PH3 : call 1500………

me : i got really angry…i told that 1500 was the first number i dialed.

me : Is there any body(any body)in BSNL who knows this.
PH3 : sir we only test whether telephone line works or not.
This was the person who spoke harshly…
go call 1500 and he cut the phone……@*@#

This was my BSNL experience.
What if BSNL was not government organization.
What if BSNL were just like any other PRivate ISP.
I feel the service would have been better.
BSNL provides its services cheaper than any other ISP.
what it actually means…
BSNL provides (cheap) service.

How the call center should have answered if there were no CDMA towers in my area.

TSA : Sorry sir as of now there is no CDMA tower in your area. And at present there is no plans of setting one too. we will keep our customers informed through advertisements as and when its launched.
we are sorry that we are not able to help u at this point of time.Is there anything you would like to know from me…..

(Note : i am not against BSNL. I do not want BSNL to be privatised. I just want their service on par with privatised ISP’s.)

ALso i have posted this not to hurt any one but to express my sorrow of how much i was pushed here and there.

Sorry again if it hurt anyone.

Thanks for looking.
Take care…
